Florida has long been one of the most popular retirement destinations and it seems there might be a scientific reason for that.

Studies show that proximity to the ocean promotes health, and some research even suggests that coastal living increases longevity

If that’s enough to convince you to move to the beach, Travel & Leisure has come up with a list of the nine best coastal towns in the country for seniors. They are:

  1. Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida
  2. St. Simons Island, Georgia
  3. Virginia Beach, Virginia
  4. Fort Myers, Florida
  5. Ogunquit, Maine
  6. Freeport, Maine
  7. Ventura, California
  8. Astoria, Oregon
  9. Carlsbad, California

With spots on both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans from southern shores to rocky northern coasts, you’re sure to find a place perfect for you.

The Seniors Trust is looking out for the financial well-being of older Americans. We believe Congress needs to enact the Social Security Expansion Act. This landmark piece of legislation will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
