High Housing Costs Have Seniors Searching for Roommates

Next to healthcare, housing is one of the highest expenses facing seniors. This is why many retirees are now considering getting a roommate to help make ends meet.
According to a report by WINK in Fort Myers, Florida, a lack of affordable housing has many retirees searching for roommates to help reduce costs. The Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida is trying to start a home share program, matching seniors with homes with those in need of housing.
The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of older Americans through the passage of the Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
