Today’s retirees are looking to relocate far beyond Florida or Arizona, places seniors sought out years ago. According to Travel & Leisure, many retirees are “looking beyond their home countries in search of a place that offers not just beauty and affordability, but peace of mind.”

Noting that safety is a top priority, the article cites findings by International Living, which ranked the ten safest places to retire in 2026. To compile the list, it used global safety rankings, including the Global Peace Index, as well as comments from expats.

Portugal was named the safest country for retirees, followed by Ireland, Malaysia, Spain, Croatia, Italy, Greece, Montenegro, Vietnam, and Costa Rica.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the well-being—personal and financial—of older Americans. We want Congress to pass the Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate increase of about $200 a month in benefits, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
