The Social Security Administration announced that the annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2027 will be 3.6 percent. That’s one of the highest COLAs on record.

According to AL.com, next year’s COLA is not only the largest in four years, but it also ranks 19th among the increases implemented since Social Security began calculating the annual boost in 1977. This year’s COLA, which was only 2.8 percent, tied for 27th.

The highest COLA on record was 14.3 percent in 1980, followed by 11.2 percent in 1981 and 9.9 percent in 1979. No COLA was issued in 2010, 2011, or 2016.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of older Americans through the passage of the Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual COLA, increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
