Best Warm Weather City for Cost-Conscious Retirees

For seniors looking for a place to retire that offers a reasonable cost of living, access to quality healthcare, and warm weather, look no further than Tallahassee, Florida.
A recent Travel & Leisure article stated that the capital of Florida ranked highest on GoBankingRates’ list of the top 25 communities offering good weather and affordability, where retirees can live on a budget of $2,000 a month or less. Maybe that’s why 11 percent of the population is of retirement age.
The article points out that Tallahassee offers a “healthy mix of recreational activities and affordability, with a cost of living that is almost 10 percent lower than the national average for a person over 65.”
The survey found that the “monthly cost of living for a homeowner on Social Security is $1,248, while a retiree renting a home can expect to spend $995 in monthly expenses.” When you consider that the average monthly Social Security benefit check for retired workers is just over $2,000, Tallahassee is quite an affordable place to retire.
The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of older Americans through the passage of the Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
