During retirement, many seniors move seeking a lower cost of living and a better quality of life. According to Travel & Leisure, suburban life often delivers on these desires. Citing the results of a GoBankingRates analysis, the best small town to retire in the United States is Maplewood, Missouri, just eight miles west of St. Louis.

Forty-four small communities with populations between 1,000 and 10,000 residents were ranked based on their cost of living, rent, crime rates, and overall livability. Maplewood was noted as being a tight-knit community where 10 percent of the population is aged 65 and older. It scored high for cost of living and housing.

Rounding out the top five best small towns to retire are Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania, Brentwood, Pennsylvania, Alamo Heights, Texas, and Riverdale, Utah.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of older Americans through the passage of the Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
