Despite the doomsday messaging that Social Security will run out of money in less than 10 years, a recent Gallup Poll found that more Americans are optimistic that Social Security benefits will be there when they retire. According to News Nation, 50 percent of workers think Social Security will pay them a benefit when they retire, compared to 47 percent who don’t think the program will help them.

And current retirees are even more optimistic. The poll found that 53 percent of them believe they will continue to receive full Social Security benefits; only 43 percent of retirees think their benefits will eventually be cut.

The Seniors Trust wants to ensure all Americans receive the Social Security benefits they have earned. We are working diligently to get Congress to pass the Social Security Expansion Act. This landmark bill will increase monthly benefits, establish a fairer cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), and shore up the long-term solvency of Social Security making sure it is there for all retirees – today and tomorrow.
