Social Security is switching to direct deposit payments. According to a story by Texas Public Radio, starting September 30, the Social Security Administration will stop issuing paper checks. The government says this change is because paper checks create “unnecessary costs; delays; and risks of fraud, lost payments, theft, and inefficiencies.”

If you receive benefits but cannot sign up for direct deposit, don’t worry. You can still receive your benefits by contacting your financial institution, visiting your local Social Security office, call Social Security at 800-772-1213; or signing up for a Direct Express debit card.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of older Americans through the passage of The Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and will ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
