Three Tips to Make a Home Safer for Seniors

Here at The Seniors Trust, we are concerned about seniors’ financial well-being, as well as their physical well-being. That’s why we want to remind you, during spring cleaning season, of the importance of making sure your home is safe and clutter-free. Removing hazards can reduce the risk of falls, which account for about three million emergency room visits each year, according to the CDC.
Executive Home Care, through a PR Newswire release, suggests you take the time to do these three things to reduce the risk of falls or other accidents in your home:
- Declutter walkways and high-traffic areas to create clear walking paths.
- Improve lighting by installing nightlights and motion-sensor lighting.
- Improve accessibility by installing grab bars in bathrooms and keeping frequently used items within easy reach so you don’t need to climb stepstools or ladders.
The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of America’s retirees through the passage of The Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and will ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
