Clean towels and a freshly made bed used to be hallmarks of every hotel stay. That’s no longer the case. It seems many hotels are doing away with daily housekeeping service.
During the early days of COVID-19, housekeeping was halted as a way to reduce contact between strangers, but as CBS News discovered daily housekeeping has not returned at most hotels. No longer related to pandemic protocol, it seems like revenue is to blame now. Hotels are facing staffing shortage and supply chain issues, so they are cutting back on housekeeping services.
This trend has a name — skimpflation. It’s when companies cut back on services rather than raise prices.
