Meals On Wheels provides nourishment and companionship to homebound seniors throughout the year. During the holiday season the non-profit organization ups its efforts as feelings of isolation tend to increase among seniors who are often separated from their families.

That’s one of the reasons Meals on Wheels East Texas started its Santas for Seniors program 14 years ago. According to The Gilmer Mirror, the agency collects donations of blankets, non-slip socks, puzzle books and other small gifts that make a big difference for the 2,000 clients it serves. Organizers say the program reminds seniors that their community cares about them.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the lives and financial well-being of older Americans through the passage of the Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
