How Do You Measure Up? Here’s the Average 2026 Social Security Benefit

The Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2026 was 2.8%. That equates to an average benefit payment of $2,071 per month – a $56 increase from last year to help cover the increased costs due to inflation, especially for housing and healthcare. The Economic Times notes that the average benefit for a married couple is now $3,208, or an additional $88 per month. With these modest increases, it’s easy to understand why seniors continue to struggle.
The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of older Americans through the passage of the Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual COLA, increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
