Millions of older Americans relying solely on Social Security benefits for their retirement income face a continual financial struggle. The high cost of living in many major cities makes it even more difficult. However, there are a couple of places where retirees can squeak by on Social Security alone.

According to an article by AOL, “Detroit and Memphis are the two largest cities where the average Social Security check completely covers annual necessity costs for two adults.” In fact, residents there would have money to spare.

Baltimore is another good option for retirees, where a couple would need about $125 from personal savings to get by.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the lives and financial well-being of older Americans through the passage of the Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
