Seniors Will Start Receiving Bigger Retirement Benefits Next Month

Retired seniors will receive bigger Social Security benefits beginning in January. According to a report by CNBC, thanks to the 2.8 percent cost-of-living adjustment for 2026, beneficiaries will receive a modest increase.
The article says that the “maximum Social Security benefit for workers who claim at full retirement age will increase to $4,152 per month next year.” That’s only $134 more than they currently get. Keep in mind that increase is only for recipients who receive the highest amount of benefits. Most seniors will receive far less.
This is just one more reason why The Seniors Trust believes so strongly that Congress needs to enact the Social Security Expansion Act. This landmark piece of legislation will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
