Senior Prom Takes On New Meaning

You’ve heard of a senior prom, but have you ever heard of a “silver prom”? A Missouri town recently hosted its second annual Excelsior Springs Silver Prom with more than 100 senior citizens gathering to relive their youth and dance the night away.
According to the Excelsior Citizen, the event is an initiative of the town’s Aging Well Task Force. Inspired by the U.S. Surgeon General’s declaration that isolation and loneliness are becoming an epidemic, the silver prom brings people together to help combat those challenges.
A live band performed tunes from the ’60s and ’70s, allowing attendees to relive their younger years. And, like any prom, a royal court was crowned, with a king and queen chosen from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, as well as prizes for best dressed.
The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of older Americans through the passage of the Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
