We all know the significance of the numbers on the front of your Social Security card. But have you ever wondered what the digits on the back represent?

According to an article by AS.com, a conspiracy theory claims they indicate the bank that “owns you.” Apparently, the rumor is that when you are born you’re put up for collateral for the banks. That’s ridiculous!

The simple truth is those numbers on the back of the card are a safety feature used to help track Social Security numbers. It’s for inventory control. Every card printed can be accounted for by the number on the back of the card. This allows the Social Security Administration (SSA) to verify if a card is real or fake.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of America’s retirees through the passage of The Social Security Expansion Act.
