Why Everyone’s Social Security Check Is Different

Social Security benefit checks are not uniform. There are many factors that go into determining just how much money a recipient receives each month. According to an article by Yahoo! Finance, the average benefit is $1,762 per month, but some people are getting as much as $4,555 each month. The discrepancy is determined by six factors: the age you claim Social Security; your work and income history; you receive a government pension; you earn money while claiming early; you’re a high-wage earner who pays more for Medicare; your benefits are garnished or levied.

The Seniors Trust is devoted to improving Social Security for all Americans. It wants Congress to enact the Social Security Expansion Act, which will increase benefits, create a strong and long-lasting trust fund, and guarantee every retired worker receives adequate Social Security benefits and a fair Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA).
