When deciding where to live during retirement, there are a few factors to take into consideration. The Motley Fool polled 2,000 retirees to find out what matters the most. Their answers might surprise some people.

Quality of life ranked highest, followed by healthcare, housing, crime, climate, taxes, and cost of living. The article noted that this ranking “punishes states that are cheap but hollow and rewards ones that deliver across the board.”

According to the survey, Florida — the Sunshine State — claimed the top spot, with California and Texas following close behind. Rounding out the top ten are Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Washington, and Georgia. The survey said Hawaii was the worst state to retire in, largely because of the high cost of living and housing.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of older Americans by passing the Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate increase of about $200 a month in benefits, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
