The Most Affordable Cities for Social Security Recipients

Even with this year’s big Social Security benefits boost, many seniors are still struggling financially. MSN discovered that about one-quarter of American retirees rely on Social Security for at least 90 percent of their income. Where you choose to live has a huge impact in how far you can stretch your monthly benefit check.

A recent survey by GOBankingRates ranked the 15 best big cities (over 250,000 population) to live on just a Social Security check and their findings might surprise you. Texas had the most cities on the list with four: El Paso, Laredo, Amarillo and Brownsville. The best city for seniors relying on Social Security happens to be Des Moines, Iowa, where monthly expenditures are only $2,308.39.
