Most Workers Say a Comfortable Retirement is Out of Reach
About half of all American workers think retiring comfortably will be a challenge. Citing results from a survey it conducted, CNBC reports that 44 percent of workers are “cautiously optimistic” about their ability to meet their retirement goals. Even more disheartening is the fact that 82 percent of workers surveyed say realizing a comfortable retirement will be “much harder or somewhat harder” for them than it was for their parents.
The survey also found that 80 percent of workers worry that Social Security will not be enough to live on during retirement.
The Seniors Trust is working diligently to ensure Social Security is there for today’s retirees and tomorrow’s. We are committed to improving the financial well-being of America’s retirees through the passage of The Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and will ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
