Let’s face it, the cost of living has gotten so high that many people, especially seniors, struggle to get by. That’s understandable when you consider that the average Social Security retirement benefit check is a little over $1,900 each month and 12 percent of men and 15 percent of women (over age 65) rely on Social Security for 90 percent or more of their income, according to the Social Security Administration.

A recent News Nation article says this has many retirees looking to relocate to other countries where the cost of living is a lot less, so they can live comfortably on Social Security alone. It found that retirees could live in Medellin, Colombia, or Penang, Malaysia, and still have money left over each month. With a budget of $2,000 per month, consider Costa Rica; Chiang Mai, Thailand; Cuenca, Ecuador; Kalamata, Greece; or San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of America’s retirees through the passage of The Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and will ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
