Senior-Friendly Side Hustles to Supplement Social Security Income

The average monthly Social Security retirement benefit payment is about $2,000. Knowing that, it’s easy to understand why many seniors are looking for ways to supplement their retirement income. A recent article posted by Yahoo! Life lists six senior-friendly side hustles to help put a little extra money in your pocket.
Those suggestions include everything from renting out a room in your house on Airbnb to becoming a delivery driver for Instacart or Uber Eats. Other ideas are to use your professional skills to take on freelance work or become a substitute teacher. Pet-sitting is another great option for retirees, as is selling handmade crafts on Etsy or at local shows.
The sad truth is that seniors would not need to search for supplement income if Social Security benefits kept up with actual costs. The Seniors Trust believes it’s time for lawmakers to finally enact the Social Security Expansion Act. This landmark piece of legislation will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, create a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increase minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
