Seniors and Students Enjoy Games at the ‘Ageless Playground’

When middle school students visited a nearby senior living center, they planned to play BINGO, even bringing specialized cards for visually impaired residents, but the seniors had other plans: introducing the kids to games like Rummikub and Mexican Train.
According to an article by McKnight’s Senior Living, the weekly meetups were part of the “Ageless Playground” program, which offers opportunities for intergenerational collaboration through playtime and craft activities.
Originally, the students participated to earn community service hours, but the program was so mutually enjoyable that students continued to visit the residents every week, even after they met their required participation hours for school credit. The senior living residents benefited as well, noting how much they enjoyed the companionship and socialization.
The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the well-being of older Americans. We are doing that financially by encouraging lawmakers to enact the Social Security Expansion Act. This landmark piece of legislation will give retirees an immediate increase of about $200 a month in benefits, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
