One in every six Americans – and four out of every five people over the age of 65 – collects Social Security benefits. That’s more than 64 million people. You would think a program that large would be widely understood, but the exact opposite is true. CNBC discovered that most people don’t know how Social Security works. It cites a quiz put out by MassMutual about Social Security retirement benefits. Over one-third of the people who took the quiz failed – and nearly 20% earned a D grade. Shockingly, just 3% of the respondents answered all of the questions correctly. Wondering how you would do? Click here to take the MassMutual quiz.

The Seniors Trust is a wonderful resource when it comes to Social Security benefits. This grassroots program is committed to passing the Social Security Expansion Act. This landmark piece of legislation will increase monthly benefits, establish a fair cost-of-living adjustment, and ensure the long-term solvency of Social Security. You can show your support by signing their petition to Congress.
