Why Your Social Security Benefits Statement Looks Different

The Social Security Administration just finished a big remodeling project. Earlier this month it introduced a newly redesigned Social Security benefits statement. According to an article by AARP, the statement went from a four-page, text-heavy document to two-pages filled with easy to understand graphs, charts and boxes. Acting SSA Commissioner Kilolo Kijakazi said the new look was created in order “to provide information to people in clear and plain terms about Social Security’s programs and services.” For example, the front page now features a prominent chart showing your projected monthly retirement benefits, along with estimates of the survivor benefits your spouse or children would receive if you pass away. Your updated Social Security benefits statement is available for viewing now on your my Social Security account.

The Seniors Trust wants to ensure all eligible Americans receive the Social Security benefits they rightfully deserve. We are pushing for passage of the Social Security Expansion Act. It would increase monthly benefits, establish a fairer cost-of-living adjustment, and shore up the long-term solvency of Social Security to ensure it’s here for ALL retirees – today and tomorrow.
