Have a Birthday Coming Up? Here’s What You Need to Know About the New Social Security Rule

Are you turning 66 this year? If so, there’s a new Social Security change you need to know about. As Channel 3000 reports, the full retirement age (FRA) is changing this year and it could impact how much money you’ll receive in benefits. This goes for anyone reaching 66 in 2022 and in coming years.

If you’ll celebrate your 66th birthday this year, your FRA will be 66 and four months. That’s two full months later than it was for people who turned 66 last year — and four months later than most earlier retirees. To put it simply, you will need to wait two extra months to start claiming benefits now at age 66.

The Seniors Trust is devoted to improving Social Security for all retirees. It wants Congress to enact the Social Security Expansion Act that will increase benefits, create a strong and long-lasting trust fund, and guarantee every retired worker receives adequate Social Security benefits and a fair Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). You can show your support by signing our petition to Congress today!
