Do You Live In a Top Spot for Retirement?
Boca Raton, Florida, once held the pinnacle position of being “the place” to live in retirement. Some of its popularity may have been fueled by its sitcom fame for the fictional retirement community, Del Boca Vista, home to Jerry Seinfeld’s parents. Decades later, retirees are still flocking to Florida.
U.S. News & World Report released its newest list of the 150 best places to retire in the United States. Not surprising, eight of the top ten spots are in the Sunshine State with Sarasota claiming the number one title. Rounding out the top ten were Naples, Daytona Beach, Melbourne, Lancaster (PA), Tampa, Fort Myers, Ann Arbor (MI), and Pensacola. Boca Raton didn’t even make the magazine’s list of top retirement destinations.
To create its list, U.S. News looked at housing affordability, health care, taxes, and overall happiness in the 150 most populated U.S. metro areas. It analyzed data from sources such as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Census Bureau, and the Tax Foundation.
