Yet Another Social Security Scam is Making the Rounds
If you receive a letter in the mail stating that your Social Security number (SSN) is being suspended do not panic. According to WGAL in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, this is the latest trick fraudsters are using to try to access your private information.
The letter, which claims to come from the Social Security Administration, states that “due to fraudulent activities, your Social Security number will be suspended in the next 24 hours.” This is simply not true — your SSN can not be suspended. Do not respond to the letter by calling the number listed. Instead, you should contact Social Security to report this suspicious fraud.
The Seniors Trust is committed to helping protect Social Security and that includes providing important information to seniors on how to prevent Social Security scams. We also want to see Congress pass The Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual COLA, increased minimum benefits, and will ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program
