One of the reasons scammers are so successful is that they don’t give you time to process the information you are being fed. Most often, there is a sense of urgency in the message, requiring that you act fast. According to an article in the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services newsletter, the best way to stop scams is to STOP.

It advises that if a call seems suspicious, you STOP. This stands for Slow Down, Test the Story, Observe Warning Signs, and Protect Your Information and Money.
