Pedal Power: Seniors Gladly Go Along for the Ride

Pedal power is helping seniors reconnect with their communities. A feature by Good News Network looked into the growing number of Cycling Without Age chapters. This international group made up of volunteers takes seniors, as well as people with disabilities, on bike rides using specially designed tricycles. The ‘trishaw’ features a two-person bench at the front where passenger(s) sit and enjoy the view, while a volunteer pedals around town. There are currently 2,700 chapters worldwide, including 80 in the United States. Seniors report improved mood, stress, and energy levels after being treated to a spin around town.

The Seniors Trust is working to improve the lives of all seniors, socially, emotionally and financially. It wants Congress to pass the Social Security Expansion Act. This landmark piece of legislation would provide bigger monthly benefits, establish a fairer cost-of-living adjustment, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program. To show your support, please sign our petition calling on Congress to enact this landmark piece of legislation.
