Politics Doesn’t Seem to Matter When it Comes to Supporting Social Security

Regardless of political party, Americans seem to agree on one thing: the importance of saving Social Security. According to a report by Navigator, “A majority of Americans express overwhelming favorability towards Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.” It found that 79 percent of Americans across party lines view these programs positively and oppose cuts. This includes 88 percent of all Democrats, 70 pecent of all Republicans, and 78 percent of all independents.
That’s promising news as lawmakers will need to work across party lines to protect Social Security, which is expected to reach a deficit in less than 10 years and no longer be able to pay full benefits.
The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of America’s retirees through the passage of The Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and will ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
