Why Young Baby Boomers are Shunning the Word ‘Seniors’

Could the term “senior citizen” be the latest victim of the so-called cancel culture? According to 107.5 Kool FM, it seems many older adults, especially younger baby boomers in their early 60s, want to “cancel the word ‘senior’ because it sounds old and they don’t want to be reminded of it.” Apparently they prefer terms such as “older adults.”
The movement appears to be gaining traction, as the report states some companies and organizations are already tweaking their branding, switching from “senior centers” and “senior living” to phrases like “community centers” and “active living.”
Regardless of the label you choose, The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the lives and financial well-being of older Americans through the passage of the Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
