‘Care On Wheels’ Delivers Services for Seniors in Need
The pandemic has been particularly hard on home-bound seniors. That’s why two local organizations in one upstate Michigan city joined forces to provide vital services to seniors in need.
According to All About Ann Arbor, Meals on Wheels, which delivers meals to home-bound seniors three days a week, noticed that many of its clients were struggling to keep up with basic housekeeping tasks and were feeling the effects of ongoing isolation. So, they enlisted the support of Seniors Helping Seniors, a non-medical service in which seniors act as caregivers for other seniors and provide in-home, peer-to-peer support.
The pilot “Care on Wheels” program was launched with support from a grant from the United Way. Clients receive about three hours of light housekeeping and companionship each month. It’s great to see a community coming together to find ways to help its older population.
The Seniors Trust is working to improve the lives of seniors, socially, emotionally and financially. We want Congress to pass the Social Security Expansion Act. This landmark piece of legislation would provide bigger monthly benefits, establish a fairer cost-of-living adjustment, and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program. To show your support, please sign our petition calling on Congress to enact this landmark piece of legislation.
