Here’s One Positive Thing That Came Out of the Midterm Election

The midterm election was certainly contentious in many races, but the one positive thing that came out of it was that it got politicians finally talking seriously about Social Security reform!

An article by Forbes states this is good news because the day is drawing nearer to when the Social Security trust fund will become insolvent. When that happens, Social Security will be able to pay only about three-quarters of its promised benefits.

While the article looked into different ideas the Democrats and Republicans are pushing, The Seniors Trust is putting its support behind the Social Security Expansion Act. This landmark piece of legislation will create a strong and long-lasting trust fund, ensuring that the fully promised benefit amounts continue to be paid far into the future. It also guarantees that every retired worker receives adequate Social Security benefits and a fair Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). As an added bonus, it would immediately increase benefits by about $200 per month.
