It seems obvious but it’s safe to say that the more you know about Social Security benefits, the more financially secure your future can be. Unfortunately, as an article by USA Today discovered, Americans aren’t as knowledgeable as they should be.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) recently revealed the results of a survey conducted between 2014 and 2021 as part of the “Understanding America Study,” which sought to find out how much the public knows about the Social Security retirement program. Sadly, respondents answered only half of the 14 general knowledge and claiming-age questions correctly.

The Seniors Trust recommends you take some time to learn more about Social Security by reading our blog posts every weekday. We’re committed to improving the financial well-being of America’s retirees through the passage of The Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), and increased minimum benefits.
