For millions of older Americans, Social Security is their primary source of retirement income. That’s why a report by CBS News’ Money Watch says it is crucial they protect this critical safety net from scammers looking to seize their hard-earned Social Security benefits. The article outlines what it considers to be the Top Five Social Security Scams — and most importantly, how to avoid falling victim to them.

Included in the top five list are the prevalent imposter scam, where the person claims to be from the Social Security Administration, and the over-payment scam where the fraudster tries to trick you into believing you were overpaid benefits and now need to repay that money immediately.

The Seniors Trust is committed to helping protect Social Security and that includes providing important information to seniors on how to prevent Social Security scams.
