Why You Might Want to Retire to a Beach or Lake Town
It’s scientifically proven. Living near the water is good for your health. An article by Kiplinger on “28 Great Places to Retire Near the Beach” sites studies that found “closer proximity and more frequent visits to bodies of water correlate to higher reports of wellness, in terms of both physical and mental health.”
Additionally, waterfront living offers increased opportunities for physical outdoor activity, such as walking the shores or paddling the surface, which also offer proven health benefits.
After analyzing living costs, safety, median incomes and poverty rates for retirement-age residents, as well as residents’ sense of well-being and the availability of recreational and health care facilities, Kiplinger came up with its list of retirement destinations within a 30-minute drive of a beach or lake.
