Starting today — January 6, 2025 — all customers need to schedule an appointment for service in local Social Security Administration (SSA) offices. This includes requests for Social Security cards.

According to the December issue of Social Security Update, the move to scheduled appointments is to reduce wait times, streamline service delivery, and improve customer experience. Several hundred local offices switched to the appointment-based service last year. In its newsletter, the SSA says those “offices have seen significant reductions in wait times due to more efficient and helpful visitor experiences and increases in the number of customers able to complete their business online.”

Customers are encouraged to utilize Social Security’s online services. Any individuals unable to handle their business online or with automated options may call their local Social Security office or the National 800# to schedule an appointment.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of America’s retirees through the passage of The Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and will ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
