Social Security provides benefits to millions of Americans, but most people know little about this program and how it works. The Social Security Administration is aiming to change that. It wants students to understand why Social Security was created and why it’s important in their lives today and in the future. It has created an educators’ tool kit, providing teachers with engaging and informative lessons. The toolkit consists of two lesson plans with objectives, infographics and handouts, links to web pages and other resources with additional information and resources, talking points, and quiz questions and answers. The best part is these lessons are also available to the public. Anyone can download the toolkit to learn more about Social Security.

The Seniors Trust is happy to share this information about foundations of Social Security. This program of The Citizen’s Assembly, a non-profit organization, is working diligently to improve the nation’s Social Security program through passage of the Social Security Expansion Act. This landmark piece of legislation will provide bigger benefits, establish a fairer cost-of-living adjustment, and secure the long-term solvency of Social Security – ensuring it is around for today’s seniors as well as today’s students when they reach retirement age.
