U.S. Representative John Larson was a guest on a recent episode of the Financial Planning podcast. The Democrat from Connecticut is chair of the Subcommittee on Social Security on the House Ways and Means Committee. A strong proponent of Social Security reform, Rep. Larson has introduced the Social Security 2100 Act in each session of Congress since 2014. That proposed legislation expands benefits for all current and future Social Security recipients, cuts taxes for over 10 million seniors, and ensures the Social Security system remains solvent for the rest of the century.

Sound familiar? It shares many of the same goals as the Social Security Expansion Act originally introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders. Similar to the Social Security 2100 Act, the Social Security Expansion Act calls for increasing monthly benefits, implementing a fair cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) tied to the unique spending habits of seniors, and creating a strong and long-lasting Trust Fund to ensure the long-term solvency of our Social Security program.

The Seniors Trust believes it is time Congress stands up and does what’s right to protect the financial future of America’s retirees. These people worked long and hard and now they deserve – and need – their retirement benefits. The Seniors Trust is committed to protecting and expanding Social Security retirement benefits for every American senior now and in the future.
