The search is on for a new Social Security Administration commissioner. According to CBS News, Martin O’Malley resigned from the position at the end of November to run for chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Before taking the helm at Social Security, O’Malley served as governor of Maryland and was a two-time mayor of Baltimore.

Although he held the SSA commissioner position for less than a year, Federal News Network says O’Malley’s tenure will be noted for efforts to improve customer service and for “rooting out underpayments and overpayments in Social Security.”

On November 30, President Biden designated Carolyn Colvin as the Acting Commissioner of Social Security. She previously held this position under President Obama’s Administration. According to Government Executive, President-Elect Donald Trump announced he has chosen financial technology executive Frank Bisignano to serve as commissioner of the Social Security Administration. The post requires Senate confirmation.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of America’s retirees through the passage of The Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and will ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
