With the high cost of housing and healthcare in this country, where you choose to live during retirement can impact your quality of life. Making that decision just got easier. WalletHub, a personal finance website, ranked the best and worst states for retirees based on criteria such as affordability, well-being, and medical care.

It’s not surprising that the top state for retirees is the one that has proudly worn the title of “retirement mecca” for generations — Florida. Closely following the Sunshine State in the rankings was Virginia, followed by Colorado, Delaware, Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Utah, and rounding out the top 10 best states for seniors were Arizona and New Hampshire, which tied for 9th place.

In case you were wondering, New Jersey came in last place making it the worst place to retire in this country, largely due to the high cost of living there.

The Seniors Trust believes no senior should struggle financially during retirement. It is committed to protecting and expanding Social Security retirement benefits through passage of the Social Security Expansion Act. This landmark piece of legislation seeks to reform Social Security by expanding and strengthening benefits proven to reduce senior poverty and improve retirement security, as well as extending the solvency of this crucial program.
