When an 80-year-old retired high school custodian was forced to go back to work to make ends meet, it was three caring kids who stepped up to help this special senior citizen. According to an article in the New York Post, Mr. James had to give up his retirement and go back to cleaning the Texas school after his monthly bills skyrocketed, including a $400 monthly rent increase.

The Callisburg High School seniors saw this and launched a Go Fund Me campaign, which raised over $270,000 in less than two weeks. In the TikTok post that went viral, the students wrote: “No one his age should have to be cleaning our messes up to continue to live.”

The Seniors Trust could not agree more. We are committed to protecting and expanding Social Security retirement benefits for every American retiree through passage of the Social Security Expansion Act. This landmark piece of legislation seeks to reform Social Security by expanding and strengthening benefits proven to reduce senior poverty and improve retirement security, as well as extending the solvency of this crucial program.
