Inflation has been hitting everyone hard this year. There’s no escaping the high costs of groceries and gasoline. And now as we get into the winter months, skyrocketing energy costs are further eating into household budgets.

According to an article by CNBC, energy services such as gas and electricity are up nearly 20 percent over this time last year. They say the ongoing war in Ukraine and extreme weather events due to climate change are partially to blame.

Fortunately, the Department of Energy wants to help by offering money-saving tips on how to save energy. It recommends opening the curtains during the day to let the sun in, insulating any drafty windows, adjusting the thermostat, locating and sealing air leaks, and maintaining existing heating systems in your home.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of America’s retirees through passage of The Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and this bill will ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
