Items are no longer just $1 at the dollar store, but an article by GoBankingRates on MSN says you can still save money by shopping at these discount stores. It pointed out that for retirees and other people living on a fixed income, Dollar Tree and other stores are a reliable place to shop.

At $1.25 each for a tube of toothpaste, bottle of mouthwash or container of deodorant, that’s a substantial savings over the cost of these toiletry items at retail stores like Target and Walmart, sometimes saving as much as $5.

Dollar stores also offer substantial savings on cleaning supplies such as bleach and multi-purpose cleaner. Some of the biggest savings can be found when buying greeting cards, which often cost $5 or more at traditional stores.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of America’s retirees through the passage of The Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), increased minimum benefits, and will ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
