Social Security recipients are getting their biggest cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in 40 years. The new super-sized benefit checks — an extra $146 per month on average — will start arriving this month. The first batch is already in the mail.

As NBC News explains, Social Security benefit checks are distributed on different weeks of the month depending upon your birth date. If your birthday falls between the 1st and the 10th of a given month, the payment will be received the second Wednesday of the month — in this case January 11. For recipients with birthdays between the 11th and the 20th of a given month, the payment will come on the third Wednesday of the month — January 18. The remaining group will get their payment on the fourth Wednesday of the month — January 25.

The Seniors Trust is committed to improving the financial well-being of America’s retirees through passage of The Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual COLA, increased minimum benefits, and this bill will ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
