Another year, another scam. It seems the new trick Social Security scammers are using is posing as federal employees, complete with official-looking ID badges. It’s called imposter scams. The Logan Daily News warns that these fraudsters are sending emails and texts with photos of the fake badges to try to convince potential victims of their legitimacy. They are even going so far as to get the names of real people using government websites and internet searches.

If you receive a suspicious letter, text, email, or call, hang up or do not respond. You are asked to report suspected Social Security imposter scams — and other Social Security fraud — to the Office of the Inspector General website at oig.ssa.gov/report

The Seniors Trust is committed to helping protect Social Security and that includes providing important information to seniors on how to prevent Social Security scams. We also want to see Congress pass The Social Security Expansion Act. It will give retirees an immediate benefits increase of about $200 a month, a fair annual COLA, increased minimum benefits, and will ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program.
