Savvy scam artists are now using artificial intelligence (AI) to try to trick unsuspecting seniors into giving up personal information that can be used to access Social Security benefits. According to U.S. News & World Report, these schemes appear legitimate because digital tools can make text messages, phone calls, and even videos, seem authentic.

The article cites a survey of Social Security recipients that found one in five beneficiaries questioned said they don’t feel confident in their ability to recognize AI-driven Social Security scams.

Fortunately, the Social Security Administration is on the lookout. Its Office of the Inspector General has launched a task force to investigate these crimes using AI.

The Seniors Trust is committed to helping protect seniors and Social Security. It wants Congress to enact the Social Security Expansion Act. When passed, this landmark piece of legislation will increase benefits, create a strong and long-lasting Trust Fund, and guarantee every retired worker receives adequate Social Security benefits and a fair Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA).
