It’s been 87 years since President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law stating: “Today, a hope of many years’ standing is in large part fulfilled… We have tried to frame a law which will give some measure of protection to the average citizen and to his family against the loss of a job and against poverty-ridden old age.”

To understand the significance of this law, and how it has impacted Americans over the years, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has produced the documentary A Hope of Many Years. It looks at the history of social insurance from ancient times through today.

The Seniors Trust is devoted to improving Social Security for all Americans. It wants Congress to enact the Social Security Expansion Act, which will increase benefits, create a strong and long-lasting trust fund, and guarantee every retired worker receives adequate Social Security benefits and a fair Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA).
